Expo City Dubai has taken a futuristic leap into food tech. It now offers AI-powered delivery robots zipping meals to doorsteps across its pedestrian zones.
These robots, built in collaboration with Yango Group, are fully electric and equipped with precision cameras, GPS, and autonomous navigation systems. The initiative supports Dubai’s wider Autonomous Transportation Strategy, which aims for 25% of city travel to be autonomous by 2030.
Orders are placed through the new Expo City Eats app. Once food is ready, a robot collects it and navigates to the user’s location. Delivery can be tracked in real time. When it arrives, users unlock the food compartment using a QR code or SMS link.
Each robot travels exclusively on pedestrian paths. This reduces traffic, lowers emissions, and avoids noise pollution. According to Gulf News, the robots are capable of replacing many short car and scooter trips, making them ideal for Expo City’s smart infrastructure.
The robots will operate for four months as part of a live pilot. Residents and visitors are already spotting them outside cafes and restaurants like Albaik, Dose, and PappaRoti, adding buzz to the experience.
Expo City’s team says the project isn’t just about efficiency. It’s a bold step in redefining how smart cities can improve daily life, starting with your next meal.
