Dubai to Launch 1,000 Driverless Taxis by 2026 in Partnership With Uber and Baidu

Dubai is getting ready to roll out driverless taxis by 2026. These self-driving vehicles will operate through Uber’s WeRide platform and Baidu’s Apollo Go app.

This bold move comes as part of the city’s push to lead in smart mobility. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that 1,000 autonomous taxis will begin service by 2026. That number is expected to grow to 4,000 by 2030.

These taxis won’t need a human driver. They will rely on sensors, artificial intelligence, and real-time mapping. The goal is to offer fast, safe, and reliable transportation, any time of day, from any part of the city.

According to Dubai RTA, this technology is expected to improve road safety and reduce traffic jams. It will also help people who don’t drive, including the elderly and tourists, get around more easily.

The project also supports Dubai’s goal to become a global leader in smart cities and sustainability. Autonomous taxis use electric power, making them more eco-friendly.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA, said, “We aim to make Dubai one of the first cities in the world to have a full-scale autonomous taxi service.” He added that the safety of passengers remains the highest priority.

Dubai will be one of the few cities worldwide offering commercial autonomous taxis. Only cities like San Francisco and Beijing have made similar moves.

This initiative is being closely watched by tech experts, city planners, and mobility firms around the world.

Residents and visitors will be able to book these taxis using either Uber’s WeRide or Baidu’s Apollo Go app. Rides will work much like regular taxis, but with no driver in the front seat.

As excitement builds, many are eager to try this futuristic ride. For Dubai, it’s not just about smart tech, it’s about staying ahead.
