Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is undertaking a transformative infrastructure overhaul: 57 major road projects, set for completion by 2027. The initiative aims to cut travel times, alleviate congestion, and support the emirate’s projected population of 8 million by 2040, aligning with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
Spanning 226 kilometers of new roads and including 115 bridges and tunnels across 11 of Dubai’s busiest corridors, these projects are data-driven and sustainability-focused, ensuring smarter mobility for residents.
This 16 km corridor connects Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road, featuring an 800-meter tunnel and other infrastructure upgrades. It will boost traffic capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour, up from 8,000, serving over one million residents. Travel time between Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road is expected to drop from 20 minutes to 6. The project is 70% complete as of May 2025.
The Hessa Street upgrade spans 4.5 km from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, doubling vehicle capacity from 4,000 to 8,000 cars per hour across four upgraded intersections. A 13.5 km cycling and e-scooter track will connect Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills, promoting sustainable transport options.
This project extends Al Khail Road between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, covering 12.9 km of roads and 13.5 km of bridges. It enhances capacity at five key intersections, supporting up to 64,400 vehicles per hour and benefiting 600,000 residents in areas like Dubai Sports City and Jumeirah Village Circle.
RTA employs cutting-edge technologies, including AI-powered project tracking and drones for aerial monitoring, improving efficiency by 40% and doubling field presence. These tools have streamlined surveys and reduced delays, ensuring timely delivery.
Sustainability is a priority, with eco-friendly materials, LED street lighting, and renewable energy integration planned across projects, aligning with Dubai’s vision for a greener future.
These projects are not just about easing today’s traffic; they pave the way for a sustainable, multimodal future. With enhanced road capacity and smarter infrastructure, residents can expect less time commuting and more time thriving.
As Dubai builds toward 2040, RTA’s vision is clear: move faster, move smarter, and move everyone forward.
