UAE Tourism Hits Record Dhs257 Billion in 2024, Ranks Top 7 Globally

The UAE’s travel and tourism sector achieved a historic milestone in 2024, contributing Dhs257.3 billion ($70.1 billion) to the national GDP, according to a new report by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). This accounts for 13% of the entire UAE economy.

This performance marks a 3.2% rise compared to 2023 and a staggering 26% jump from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The growth reflects the country’s strategic focus on tourism as a pillar of economic diversification.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, celebrated the achievement as a testament to the nation’s economic strength and adaptability. He emphasized that tourism has become a key contributor to long-term growth.

“This record confirms the UAE’s global standing as a world-class destination. Tourism is not just about visitors, it’s about jobs, investment, and innovation,” he said.

Record Spending by Visitors

International visitor spending surged to Dhs217 billion, solidifying the UAE’s place among the world’s top seven countries for tourist expenditure. Domestic tourism also played a crucial role, contributing an additional Dhs57 billion.

The WTTC report credited the country’s advanced infrastructure, visa-friendly policies, and strong hospitality sector as key drivers of success. Industry leaders expect the momentum to continue into 2025 as new attractions and initiatives are launched.

Global Recognition and Future Outlook

The UAE’s impressive rebound from the COVID-19 crisis has placed it at the forefront of global tourism recovery. The country now joins the ranks of top global destinations like the U.S., France, and Spain in terms of international visitor spending.
