From October 1, passengers can carry only one power bank under 100 Watt Hours. However, using power banks to charge devices onboard will be prohibited. Charging a power bank with aircraft power will also be banned.
The airline requires that all power banks display their capacity rating clearly. Travellers must store them in a seat pocket or under the seat, not in the overhead bin. Importantly, placing power banks in checked luggage will remain strictly forbidden.
This update aligns with international safety standards to reduce fire risks from lithium battery devices in flight. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization, improper handling of such batteries can lead to overheating and potential fire hazards.
An Emirates spokesperson said the policy ensures higher onboard safety and compliance with global aviation regulations. “Passenger safety is our highest priority, and these measures are necessary to minimize potential risks,” the statement read.
