Dubai’s Taxi Sector Sees 7% Trip Growth in First Half of 2025

According to Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), total taxi trips reached 59.5 million in H1 2025, up from 55.7 million in H1 2024. Passenger numbers also climbed from 97 million to 103.5 million over the same period.

Hala Taxi, the city’s joint e-hailing venture, expanded its market share to 41.3% of total trips, up from 40.3% a year earlier, marking a 2.5% increase in share.

Growth across services and workforce

Over the same period, the number of active drivers rose from around 13,000 to nearly 14,000. Shakri confirmed that the sector achieved record performance in e-hailing services, hourly vehicle rentals, and Hala Taxi bookings.

He noted, “The comparative figures for H1 2025 underscore the emirate’s economic vibrancy, which has cemented its position as a global destination for investment and tourism,” in a statement reported by the Dubai Media Office.

Improved efficiency and faster arrivals

Service efficiency has also advanced. In H1 2024, about 70% of Hala Taxi trips recorded an estimated arrival time under four minutes. In H1 2025, that figure improved to around 74% of trips arriving within 3.5 minutes.

With consistent growth, faster service, and rising market share, Dubai’s taxi sector continues to play a crucial role in the city’s public transport network and tourism appeal.
