Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced remarkable results from its AI-powered Smart Monitoring System, which tracks the behavior of instructors and trainees during driving lessons.
Over the past seven months, the system monitored 1,734,790 training sessions involving 245,764 trainees, marking a 14-fold increase in session monitoring compared to the same period last year.
The AI monitoring solution was launched to enhance transparency, safety, and training standards across Dubai’s driving schools. Installed in training vehicles, the system uses advanced cameras and AI algorithms to track instructor attentiveness, trainee behavior, and vehicle movement in real time.

“This system helps us ensure every lesson meets our strict quality and safety guidelines,” said an RTA official quoted by WAM News Agency. “It is part of our commitment to building a safer and smarter mobility ecosystem.”
By identifying irregularities, such as distracted instructors or unsafe driving habits, the system allows schools to take corrective action quickly. It also provides performance analytics to help trainers improve lesson delivery and track student progress more accurately.
The Smart Monitoring System is part of Dubai’s broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into transportation and public services. The initiative supports the UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031, which aims to position the country as a global leader in AI innovation.
Since launch, the system has not only improved training standards but also boosted confidence among learners and parents. Many have praised the added layer of safety and professionalism it brings to what is often a stressful learning experience.
The dramatic increase in monitored sessions, from tens of thousands to over 1.7 million, shows both the scale and efficiency of the new system. Driving schools across Dubai have adopted it quickly, and the results are being tracked and reported in real time.
With AI now embedded in driver training, Dubai is setting a new global standard in smart mobility and digital transformation. The RTA has hinted that more AI-based systems are coming soon, both on the road and behind the scenes.
