Dubai to Build UAE’s First Proton Therapy Centre for Cancer Treatment by 2028

Dubai is taking a bold step in cancer care with the launch of the UAE’s first Proton Therapy Centre. Backed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and developed by Yas Healthcare, the new centre will begin construction in early 2026 and is expected to open by late 2028.

Named the Yas Proton Therapy Centre, the facility will offer a safer and more advanced alternative to traditional radiation therapy. This treatment uses high-energy proton beams to target tumors precisely, helping to reduce damage to surrounding healthy tissue. It is especially effective for children and patients with tumors located near vital organs.

The project is being developed in collaboration with Singapore’s National Cancer Centre, bringing international expertise to every phase of development.

“This groundbreaking technology will advance cancer treatment options for our community and reinforce Dubai’s goal of ranking among the top 10 cities globally for healthy life expectancy.” – Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Director General of DHA, praised the initiative:

This new medical hub is part of Dubai’s larger healthcare innovation strategy. It aims to make world-class treatments accessible without the emotional and financial strain of traveling abroad.

Once completed, the Yas Proton Therapy Centre will serve not only UAE residents but also patients from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It will position Dubai as a regional leader in next-generation oncology care.

The announcement reflects Dubai’s long-term health goals outlined in the official DHA strategy and aligns with the UAE’s Vision 2031 to improve life expectancy and healthcare innovation.
