Dubai Reaches 1,270 EV Charging Stations in Push for Greener Transport

Dubai has taken another big step toward a sustainable future. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that the emirate now operates over 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. These are located throughout Dubai’s residential areas, public parking zones, commercial hubs, and highways.

Fast Facts

  • Project: Dubai now has over 1,270 EV charging stations across the emirate
  • Provider: Rolled out by DEWA in partnership with public and private sectors
  • Goal: Support UAE Net Zero 2050 and Dubai’s clean mobility vision
  • Features: Smart app integration for real-time location and charger access
  • Impact: Makes EV travel easier and greener for both residents and tourists

DEWA Leads the Charge in Green Mobility

The expansion is part of DEWA’s “Green Charger” initiative, launched to support the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy and reduce emissions in urban transport. DEWA has rolled out these chargers in collaboration with public and private partners, including malls, offices, and real estate developers. This effort aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of becoming a smart and sustainable city.

“We are proud to support the transition to electric mobility by expanding our charging network,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA. “Our infrastructure is designed to be efficient, accessible, and ready for the future.”

According to DEWA’s official portal, the total number of charging points has grown rapidly since the launch of the initiative in 2015, when there were just 100.

Boosting Confidence for EV Drivers

These 1,270+ stations make it easier for residents and tourists to switch to electric vehicles without worrying about range or access. The charging network is integrated with DEWA’s smart app, which helps users locate, reserve, and monitor chargers in real time.

This development also supports Dubai’s Smart Mobility Strategy, which promotes AI-powered transport and reduced reliance on fossil fuels. With the growing demand for EVs across the UAE, Dubai’s network ensures that infrastructure keeps pace with market needs.

Looking ahead, DEWA plans to continue expanding the charging network and enhancing its speed and efficiency, preparing Dubai for a new era of eco-friendly travel.
