Dubai Police Arrest Cyber Gang Behind Fake Banking Links and SMS Scam

Dubai Police have arrested a cyber gang that used fake SMS links to steal banking information from residents across the city.

According to an official statement, the Anti-Fraud Centre led the operation. The gang posed as restaurants, delivery services, and promo brands to trick victims. The messages often included fake offers or urgent requests.

“When a victim clicked the link and entered their banking details, the gang withdrew funds from their account,” police said.

The cybercriminals crafted messages that looked legitimate. Victims believed they were interacting with trusted companies. These fake links redirected them to phishing pages that harvested their data.

Dubai Police warned the public to avoid clicking on any suspicious links. Even messages that appear to be from known sources could be fake. They urged residents to report scams through the Police Eye feature in the Dubai Police app or via the eCrime platform.

“Specialised teams at the Anti-Fraud Centre analysed fraudulent message patterns and tracked the gang’s online activity,” authorities explained. This led to the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of electronic tools used in the crime.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with other relevant government bodies. The success highlights Dubai Police’s growing digital investigation capabilities.

Authorities continue to call for public awareness. “Stay vigilant,” Dubai Police emphasized. “If a message seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
